Pattern of rural population growth is one of the main themes, which have received attention in the field of population studies. It has gained more importance in many disciplines like Sociology, Geography, Economics, etc. Because population problem is not confined to a single discipline but has essentially many dimensions and it plays an important role in the development of any region. The study of rural population growth is very helpful for planning of the rural economy.

In Mysore district, more number of villages were found in H.D.Kote taluk and more number of un-inhabited villages also found in this taluk. Less number of villages are found in the T.Narasipira taluk. Less number of un-inhabited villages is found in Periyapatna taluk. It shows in the Table 1.

The rural population growth has been gradually decreasing from 1961 to 2001. But it varies from taluk to another taluk. It is shown in Table 2.

Rural population growth region has been delineated based on the wieghtage of population growth rate. And the growth level has been classified into three classes. They are: Low, Medium and High.

During 1961 H.D.Kote, Hunsur, and Periyapatna taluk has low rural population growth and K.R.Nagara, Mysore taluk has medium population growth and remaining taluks are rural population growth taluk are Nanjangud, T.Narasipura taluks having high rural population growth.

During 1971 Hunsur and Periyapatna taluks has low rural population growth. H.D.Kote, K.R.Nagara. Mysore taluk has medium growth of rural population and Nanjangud, T.Narasipura taluks having high rural population growth.

During the 1981 Periyapatna taluk having low rural population growth and H.D.Kote, Hunsur, K.R.Nagara, Mysore taluks having medium rural population growth and remaining taluks are Nanjangud and T.Narasipura taluks having again high population growth.

In the period of 1991 Hunsur and Periyapatna taluks has low rural population growth and H.D.Kote, K.R.Nagara, Mysore, T.Narasipura taluks having medium population growth and only one taluk is Nanjangud has high growth of rural population.

In 2001 Hunsur, K.R.Nagara, Periyapatna taluks has less growth, H.D.Kote, Mysore, T.Narasipura taluks has medium growth and Nanjangud taluk has high growth of rural population. The variation in the growth of population from the last decade can be observed in Figure 2.

Population growth is the most important component in the demographic structure in the society. Because understanding of population growth in an area holds the key to the understanding of the entire demographic structure of the area. This understanding of population growth both rural and urban population growth is helpful for the preparing of the plan for the development purpose. From 1961 to 2011 rural population is drastically decreasing This situation will continue in future the rural areas population growth rate is completely decreases in rural areas and this rural areas will become poor or less develop and urban areas are become more develop. So two kinds results are given positive impact and negative impact.
